Tech savvy or not, people are still trying to adapt to this new norm of online meetings and it’s not easy. It seems the awkwardness of conversation is magnified, trying to save the conversation has become much harder as well.
Since we are usually in the physical presence of the person we are speaking to, we are able to tell their body language and facial expressions with much more ease. Speaking with them through video chat platforms just feels like we’re talking to a screen and not a real person, it creates a physical disconnect.
The biggest factor that can affect an online meeting conversation is internet connection. I’m sure you’ve come across those “Can you hear me?” or “Can you see me?” conversations, it gets even more uncomfortable when you’ve been going at it with the other person for more than a few minutes!
Cutting each other off happens quite a lot when you can’t tell when the other person will speak, it’s those “Sorry, you go first” conversations.
