Sailing Safely Through Rough Waters
At some point in your life, you’ve surely come across a moment when you wish you hadn’t said something or wish someone else hadn’t. Public Relations professionals are met daily with conversational difficulties and have to learn to somehow save themselves from those situations.
Those difficult conversations may range from having to call for confirmation from an unwilling publication company, dealing with stubborn clients, or answering awkward questions at a press conference. Not everyone is good at it at first or wants to deal with tough conversation situations, but with some practice and composure, responding to those situations will come more naturally.
Different ways you can manage difficult conversations is to have neutral thinking, managing your emotions, be clear about the issue, have a conversation objective, being comfortable with silence, mind the relationship, develop conflict resolution skills, and choosing the location.
